Countering the AI Inevitability Narrative
We believe the future of AI is a shared decision. It does not need to be left to the few.
Following the publication of the paper Charting Challenges to Narratives of AI Inevitability, we received many examples of how individuals, organisations and movements are actively working to resist, refuse, reclaim and reimagine AI.
This has led to the AI Resist List, which is a collaboration between a group of researchers, journalists, and critical scholars spanning seven time zones to document stories of resistance against the AI industry around the world.
Here, we will continue to research what people are doing to counter narratives of inevitability. Expect articles where we look at different examples and trends observed in the space; and possibly more.
Resisting, Refusing, Reclaiming, Reimagining: Charting Challenges to Narratives of AI Inevitability proposes a framework for those challenging the power dynamics underpinning AI technologies, and illustrates that there are many ways individuals and collectives can influence how technology is developed and used.
